Second investigation launched into Honda World Touring Car floors

The four World Touring Car Championship Honda Civics are under investigation for the compliance of their flat floors for a second time

The investigation is the second of the marque's flat floor in two WTCC rounds, with FIA technical delegate Manuel Leal and FIA stewards also examining the cars at the Hungaroring a fortnight ago.

Three pieces of each car, including independent driver Ferenc Ficza's Zengo Motorsport Civic, were sealed after Saturday qualifying at the Hungaroring, although the Civics were later cleared by the stewards as compliant with Appendix J Article 263 of the International Sporting Code.

But the issuing of results after Sunday's two races in Morocco confirmed that a second investigation of the flat floor had been launched and was ongoing.

Autosport understands that while all four Civics passed Friday's local scrutineering checks in Morocco, the further investigation was launched by Leal, once more into three pieces of its flat floor.

The JAS Motorsport-run team achieved a podium lockout in the second race at the Circuit Moulay El Hassan, with Rob Huff clinching his second win of the season ahead of team-mates Norbert Michelisz and Tiago Monteiro.

While the results of Sunday's races have been given a final classification, they remain 'subject to the conclusion of the further investigation concerning flat bottom of car 5, 12, 18, [and] 55'.

The only confirmed change to the classification was the exclusion of Tom Chilton from race two.

The Briton was found to be in breach of Articles 68 and 69 of the WTCC's sporting regulations after his Citroen C-Elysee was found with two unregistered tyres in parc ferme.
